Martin Kersten presents keynote about the database eco-system during DW&BI Summit 2019

Martin Kersten will present a keynote during the Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence Summit on March 27th and 28th 2019; The modern database eco-system, the world is changing quickly (Dutch spoken). In this session Martin Kersten will discuss trends in database technology like Column stores, Hadoop and Apache Spark, performance, benchmark scores and more.

Martin L. Kersten is a computer scientist with research focus on database architectures, query optimization and their use in scientific databases. He is an architect of the MonetDB system, an open-source column store database for data warehouses, online analytical processing (OLAP) and geographic information systems (GIS). For this work he received the prestigious ACM SIGMOD E.F. Codd Innovation Award and the ACM SIGMOD Systems Award. He published more than 150 papers and is an ACM Research Fellow. He has been (co-) founder of several successful spin-offs of CWI such as Data Distilleries and MonetDB.

Cloud-based services, in-memory databases, and massive parallel (ML) database applications are predominant in the BI marketing hype nowadays. But, what has really changed over the last decade in the DBMS products being offered? What players are riding the technology curve successfully? Should we worry about the impact of new hardware such as GPU and non-volatile memory? And, should we rely on programmers to reinvent the wheel for each and every database interaction? What are the hot technologies brewing in the kitchen of database companies?

Extensive programme
The Datawarehousing & Business Intelligence Summit takes place on March 27th and 28th 2019 in the Van der Valk Hotel Utrecht, The Netherlands.
